Making a move is stressful enough without having to worry about your items being ruined in the process. While there are many different enclosures that are recommended, nothing is as dependable or as affordable as small shipping boxes. Instead of purchasing plastic containers that are expensive and often the wrong size, small shipping boxes can be customized for every single item that is being packed.
While many people will use used boxes, they are putting their items at risk by doing this. Used boxes may have lost their integrity and if they get bumped of shuffled during the move, the items inside could be damaged. This is less likely to happen with a new shipping box as it will have never been used and the rigidness and sturdiness of the box will never come into question.
Picking the right size box is also very important. By picking a box that is too small, the items inside will not leave room for adequate padding to be placed inside the box. There should always be some type of bubble wrap, newspaper or other source of cushion to add added protection to the box itself. If the box is too big, the item will end up moving inside the box during the move and damage could occur. This is the reason that shipping boxes come in a variety of sizes so that right box for the job can be chosen every time.
Before the box is put into the moving vehicle, you must make sure that it is sealed properly. Packing tape is always best for this as it is stronger than standard tape. For best results, cover all seems and double tape the folds to make sure that they do not open. If there are any open areas on the box, tape them up so the box does not open unexpectedly.
Labeling is also very important when using small shipping boxes to move. It is best to mark them on top and on at least one side with the room that they will be going into when arriving at their new location. This ensures that everything goes in its place and the kitchen dishes don’t end up in the bedroom.
